Waffle-weave towels (see our Best Waffle Weave picks) are thinner, lighter, faster-drying, and more compact, but sacrifice some of the enveloping plushness that many people associate with a quality bath towel. Expert sources consistently treat these as materially different product types, which is why we evaluate them separately.

Consider fabric weight (GSM) as a guide, not a guarantee. GSM, or grams per square meter, measures how dense and heavy a towel is. Higher GSM generally means plusher and more absorbent, but also heavier and slower to dry. The towels in this review range from approximately 220 GSM (waffle) to 820 GSM (plush). A mid-range GSM around 500–700 offers a good balance for most people.
